Consecration Sunday Is Coming!
Members of congregations that approach financial stewardship from a metaphysical and Unity perspective do not view the money donated to their spiritual community as given merely to pay its bills! Rather, they see financial stewardship as an opportunity to direct their treasure to where their hearts are, by supporting their community’s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes.
For the second consecutive year, our leadership has selected the Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program to provide a vehicle for the teaching and experience of the spiritual principles of generous giving. This year, Consecration Sunday will be on September 27, 2026.
The Consecration Sunday program is based on the spiritual philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. Instead of people being treated like members of a social club who should pay dues, people are invited to consider being followers of a spiritually based practice who want to give unselfishly to their spiritual home as an act of discipleship (or “commitment”). Consecration Sunday encourages us toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the question, “What percentage of my income is God / Spirit within calling me to give?”
During morning worship service on Consecration Sunday, attendees and members will be asked to make their financial commitments to our church’s vision, mission, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world.
Every attendee and member who completes a Giving Intention Card will do so voluntarily while attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We urge people who feel strongly opposed to completing a card to attend as well! The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card. There will be a celebration luncheon immediately following the service.
There will be no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During service on Consecration Sunday our guest leader will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration.
Following the message, congregants will be invited to make their commitments as a confidential act of devotion.
Participation in Consecration Sunday events will be promoted by the Consecration Sunday team and other leaders of our community. Since there will be no follow-up visits to ask people to complete their cards, every effort will be made to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday worship service.
