The Joy of Being a Prayer Chaplain: A Call to Serve
By Reverend Ann
Have you ever experienced the profound joy that comes from lifting others up in prayer? As Prayer Chaplains, we are blessed with the opportunity to support our church family in a deeply meaningful way. We offer comfort, strength, and encouragement to those in need, and in return, we experience the incredible peace and fulfillment that comes from serving others in love.
Being a Prayer Chaplain is more than just offering a prayer; it’s about walking alongside others during their most challenging and joyful moments, providing a listening ear, and reminding them they are never alone in their journey.
If you’ve ever felt called to serve in this capacity or are curious about what it means to be a Prayer Chaplain, we invite you to join Rev. Rene’s “Everyone Prays” a 2-part Prayer Workshop being offered Friday July 17th 6 to 8pm and Saturday July 18th 10-1 pm. This class is open to everyone who wants to learn more about prayer and necessary for those considering prayer chaplaincy. Because each session builds beautifully upon the last, we asked that all participants plan to join us for both days to experience the full workshop.
If you have further questions, contact me please! Revann@unityren.org.
With love and many blessings, Rev. Ann
Below are some of our Prayer Chaplains speaking to their experience.
Hazel Gaines PC since 2015
What I love about being a prayer chaplain is an opportunity to build a sacred connection with the community. It allows me to connect with people heart to heart, offering compassion, encouragement, and hope during both joyful and challenging moments. Being present for others in prayer is a meaningful privilege, and I am grateful to serve with an open heart.
Debra Amme PC since 2005
I love praying with others so they can know their oneness with Spirit as well as remember who they are.
Linda Tucci PC since 2015
I truly get the concept now of “holding the high watch”. It’s an honor to do this for others and a blessing when others hold for me.
Deborah Morefield PC since 2014
Being a Prayer Chaplain connects me deeply to spirit and to the unity community, we pray with. It helps both parties feel the sense of connection and peace.
Tony Porten PC since 2025
Initially, Prayer Chaplaincy meant stepping up to my perceived weakness with prayer as nudged by spirit in my daily practice. I have come to learn that nudge wasn’t to face and rid a fear, it was to be of greater service than I could have imagined when stepping up. To receive people in only love and truth and to give only love and truth in response as guided only by love through prayer is a powerful gift and responsibility. I find myself on a mission of healing. Serving in such a manner that others might arrive at their own awakenings through my consistent demonstration of love and commitment to allowing the flow of universal truth to preside. I have a deep desire to be response-able for my spiritual community.
Peggy Lindstrom PC since 2018
Joining others in prayer has uplifted me in so many ways, with affirmative prayer we form a circuit of oneness.
Carolyn Williams PC since 2025
I’m honored and privileged to bear witness with others in prayer. Also able to be a part of a loving and supportive community of other individuals that get to speak Affirmative words over those seeking support and/or encouragement.
Shelly Merritt Myers PC since 2005
It is a profound honor to hold sacred prayer with our congregants. The more I serve as a Prayer Chaplain at Unity Renaissance, the more I awaken into the truth of my awareness with God. And lifting others in prayer, I find my own heart opening ever more fully to the presence that unites us all.
Lisa Grady PC since 2018
When I pray within myself or for others, I inhabit the world of spirit where everything connects to oneness, and I feel like I’m home.
Audrey Hiltke PC since 2019
I feel joy in the power of prayer as I connect to others with an open heart and at the deepest level. Being present in prayer, allows others to be truly heard, bringing peace to our prayer time and while affirming we are love and loved.
Donna Shannon PC since 2021
Being a Prayer Chaplain has not only deepened my faith and connection to source, but it has helped me create close ties to others. I am rooted in the UR community because of Prayer Chaplaincy. I have a place, a purpose, and a feeling of completeness.
