When the Way Reveals Itself
There is something that happens when we choose a pathway.
When life clears something away, those spaces tend to fill quickly. It is said that the universe abhors a vacuum. An ongoing practice of following the desires of our hearts through vision and imagination prepares us for these moments and may even help call them forth. The Universe is attuned to our hearts. Its desire is to fulfill them. Sudden changes can become clearings for more of what we truly love and desire. Best to be ready. Life is always changing.
When my life suddenly changed a few years ago, a path I loved seemed to emerge almost effortlessly because the seed had already been planted. It had simply been waiting for the opportunity to be nurtured and take root. It felt as though it dropped in and said, “Okay, you’ve always wanted to walk the Camino — now is the time.”
The desire evolved beyond merely walking the Camino. It became a desire to walk the Camino de Santiago as a pilgrimage — a demonstration of my commitment to live in God-Consciousness, guided by love. I see now that it was an opportunity to test myself: Are you wholly willing to trust God as Life as the surest, safest, and most practical thing you can do — and be joyful while you’re doing it? It became an opportunity to embody my own Camino as a way of life, an outer expression of an inner commitment to “The Way.”
While there are many routes to choose from, one revealed itself to me almost instantly. A pause. A breath. A void filled with an answer to the question: “Which route should I take?” As I studied the routes, one stood out immediately. Seeing the words Camino Francés made my heart skip a beat. The intelligence of the heart bypasses the intellect. Its answer simply rang as true. Once accepted, it became simple: start here, follow the signs, walk this way. Step by step. Breath by breath.
There is peace in committing to the way of the heart. Actions begin to follow decisions with greater ease. There is also a playful way life leads us. If we become willing to live a little more in the mystery — releasing control and the need to know everything — life can become quite joyful. Guides appear in unexpected ways. People, insights, and resources arrive right on time. With practice and patience, we begin to build trust: trust in ourselves, in God, in Love, in the way life works, in the Universe itself — that it is always conspiring for us, not against us. This is how Camino revealed itself to me as both a pathway and eventually a way of life.
This is also how The Way of Mastery works for me. It is a pathway that has proven itself again and again to be more practical and reliable than anything my body-mind or intellect could devise on its own. It offers a set of tools, and no matter which one I pick up, it seems to meet every perceived need perfectly. I have committed my life to living this pathway — step by step, moment by moment — and it has yet to fail me. Its depths seem infinite.
What I have discovered within it is a structure that contains every teaching that has ever rung true in my heart. Recovery principles, Unity teachings, Science of Mind, A Course in Miracles, The Four Agreements, and more — all the threads seem to weave together into one living pathway. It is why I am so passionate about finally teaching it here at Unity Renaissance Spiritual Life Center.
While wholehearted commitment allows us to receive the fullest gifts of any pathway, I also know that even a small willingness to apply these teachings can begin transforming a life. Whether you simply listen to a Sunday message, engage in self-study, take a class, or dedicate more deeply within a group, there is something here for everyone seeking spiritual awakening and transformation. It leads us toward greater peace, love, and joy. It changes lives.
I will be offering breakout classes in May and June on select Thursdays to explore the practical tools of this pathway more deeply. I hope you will register and join us. The Wednesday study group will open in July for those who complete these classes.
The possibility of a committed spiritual community walking this pathway together fills me with wonder and excitement. It opens my mind and heart to beautiful possibilities — and to the fulfillment of the Vision and Mission of Unity Renaissance.
